In her role as Executive Director of the First Nations Adult Education School Council, Rola helped support the creation of adult education centers in Indigenous communities across Quebec. She established and maintained partnerships with federal and provincial governments and Indigenous groups. Under her leadership they were able to negotiate new funding agreements, and consequently increased the budget from $2.2 million to $6.4 million, increased the number of centers from 3 to 9 and created business services, which generated $140,000 in the first year.
Rola has over two decades of experience working with Indigenous communities throughout Québec. Her kind heart, sharp mind and generous spirit are only a few of the qualities that make her an ideal Phil collaborator.
Rola was born in Lebanon. She arrived on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehà:ka after spending her early years in Mi’kma’ki. Rola had the privilege of working with the Kanien’kehà:ka as well as other nations in what is known as Quebec. She continues to live and work on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehà:ka.
A settler story is a personal history that focuses on your connection to the land. At Phil, we wanted to share our settler stories out of respect for the unceded Indigenous territories we live, work, and play on.
Phil is also committed to building trust by respecting and amplifying Indigenous ways of knowing and the true history of colonialism.
That’s why our settler stories are important to us. What does your story mean to you?
