A Holiday Wish for all Non-Profits

December is a very busy time for non-profit professionals, everyone rushing to get those last few donations in before the calendar year ends. Many are wrapping up case for supports, instead of wrapping gifts for their loved ones. Some are playing telephone tag with a major donor instead of playing outside in the snow. Others are cooking up ways to make their reduced budget work so no program has to suffer, instead of cooking up a batch of holiday cookies for their family.

Non-profit professionals give every last ounce of themselves for the causes they believe in and if you need a reason to be hopeful or joyful this season, just look at the 2 million people who work in the non-profit sector in Canada. They are living proof that there is still so much good in this world.

It’s strange to think that we work in the only sector that hopes it goes out of business. If charities and non-profits didn’t exist, it would mean we’d live in a world without illness, hunger, homelessness, accidents, and every other form of tragedy or ailment.

It’s a beautiful wish, but far from possible. Until then, we must continue to give it our all, every day.

So what is our wish for all non-profits?

We wish citizens adopt more of a giving spirit and play a more important role in improving their neighborhoods.

We wish that people who have never volunteered make it their New Year’s resolution to do so in 2015.

We wish non-profits the courage to continue their work no matter what the obstacle, no matter what setback they experience.

May 2015 be filled with opportunities for learning, growth and accomplishments you can be proud of.

Happy Holidays to all our non-profits friends out there! Thank you for all you’ve done this year to improve our communities.
